Wisconsin Football Coaching Rumors: Why Paul Chryst Won't Get the Job

It has not even been a week since coach Bret Bielema left Wisconsin left the Badgers for the Razorbacks in Fayetteville. Yet the rumors surrounding the coaching position continue to churn.

When the Badgers take on Stanford in the Rose Bowl on New Years Day they will be led by Athletic Director and former head coach Barry Alvarez. While he is rumored to be a top candidate, a close friend of his is rumored to be an even stronger candidate... Paul Chryst.

Chryst is a former offensive coordinator for the Badgers and is from the Madison area, and is much liked within the Badger program. The problem is that Chryst just finished his first season coaching Pitt, a job that Barry Alvarez helped him get.

Given that Alvarez helped him acquire his new position, he does not feel "appropriate" is he snatched Chryst right back. Therefore it is almost certain that you can scratch Chryst off of your list of potential head coaches.
