When 2020 rolls around, it will have been nine years since the Vancouver Canucks reached the Stanley Cup Final — the last Canadian team to reach the feat.
The Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets were all eliminated in the first round, which officially means Canada’s Stanley Cup drought reaches 26 years. And at this current rate, it’s hard to see it ending in 2020 or 2021.
The Canucks are the only NHL team that has missed the playoffs in each of the last four years, so many are going to scoff at the suggestion that they’ll be the next Canadian team to hoist Lord Stanley’s mug.
