Canucks waive goodbye to Frank Corrado as Leafs claim blue-liner

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks knew they were taking a gamble when they put defenceman Frank Corrado on waivers Monday.

They lost that bet when the Toronto Maple Leafs claimed the 22-year-old.

Forward Linden Vey and defenceman Alex Biega, the two other players waived by the Canucks on Monday, cleared waivers and will be assigned to the AHL's Utica Comets.

Corrado should be thrilled by the fact he is now a Maple Leaf. Corrado was born in Toronto and played his junior hockey in Ontario.

Corrado, a fifth-round pick of the Canucks in the 2012 entry draft, was projected this past summer to be on the Canucks' opening-night roster.
