What if the Toronto Maple Leafs keep van Riemsdyk?

It is extremely likely that the Toronto Maple Leafs are going to lose JVR this summer. He is an unrestricted free agent and is looking for a raise off of his current bargain basement $4.25 cap-hit.

Drafted second overall by the Flyers in 2007, James van Riemsdyk was traded to the Leafs in 2012 for Luke Schenn. The trade turned out to be one of the best in Leafs history. Brian Burke still doesn’t get the credit he deserves for the current state of the Leafs, but his JVR trade was a pure heist. (Not to mention the drafting of Kadri and the Gardiner trade).
