Just 2 weeks ago, the Toronto Maple Leafs were pegged as obvious buyers at the trade deadline, something that turned south fairly quickly after their embarrassing performances against Pittsburgh and Carolina subsequently.
All injuries and other excuses aside, the team failed to show up for the last couple of weeks. They don’t play like a team that is battling to clinch a playoff spot, but they also aren’t going to just give up on the season when they’re in the playoffs (currently) and missing some of their best players.
