In a corresponding move, the Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled defensive prospect Rinat Valiev from the Toronto Mariles of the AHL.
Morgan Rielly has been the Leafs best defenseman this season, in what is proving to be his breakout year. Last Thursday, he injured what appeared to be his shoulder in a game against the Flyers. He then missed Saturday’s match against the Senators.
Despite going on to the Injured Reserve, Rielly’s injury is not believed to be serious. The Leafs have two games left before the all-star break after Monday’s tilt with the Avalanche. Sitting him out until after the break gives him nearly two weeks off, which is sensible considering his importance to the team.
