If you scripted it, the only way it works out better is if the Toronto Maple Leafs somehow came away from the draft with Jack Hughes.
So fanciful wish fulfillment aside, the Leafs realistically had a fantastic weekend.
One that receives a full five-star rating.

The Leafs were boxed in on the Patrick Marleau front. If they couldn’t move him, they were going to be completely prevented from doing anything else.
With Marleau only willing to go to San Jose, it appeared this would not get done. The Leafs, however, found a taker in Carolina who would buy him out in exchange for a first rounder.
