Paul MacLean named Leafs assistant coach

The Leafs have hired Paul MacLean as an assistant coach, the team announced Friday.

MacLean spent last season as an assistant coach with Columbus after being hired on November 21, 2019.

In four seasons as head coach of the Ottawa Senators, MacLean posted a record of 114-90-35, winning the Jack Adams Award in 2012-13.

He has been an assistant coach in the Stanley Cup finals three times with Detroit, winning the Stanley Cup in 2008 and being a finalist in 2002 and 2009.

The hiring comes one week after the Leafs hired Manny Malhotra to the team’s coaching staff under Sheldon Keefe.
