Somewhere else in the multiverse, the 2020-2021 NHL season is about to get underway, but here in our sad corner of existence we’re gearing up for the draft. One question—will Kyle Dubas, who found himself with an unexpected first rounder thanks to Pittsburgh and Kasperi Kapanen, choose to keep the pick? Watching the first round of the draft without a first round pick is the hockey equivalent of going to prom with a broken ankle. You put on the nice dress just to go watch all your friends dance without you. On the other hand, if Dubas can leverage a mid-first-rounder into multiple picks, or a trade for someone that would be useful now, today, and not in five years—as Hardev talked about yesterday in our pick for the SBN Mock Draft, anyone the Leafs pick on Tuesday won’t be fully baked yet—I’d happily resign myself to a night of boredom.
