TORONTO - “Potential. That’s like a dirty word if you don’t do anything with it.”
That’s not just another quotable quote from Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock, it’s the truth.
And there are seven or eight players on the Leafs roster who, because of injuries and trades, are getting an opportunity to prove they have more than just potential, that they have what it takes to play in the NHL.
“Which kids are going to be NHL players and good NHL players, I don’t have the answer for you,” Babcock said after Tuesday morning’s game-day skate as his team prepared to face the Nashville Predators a the Air Canada Centre.
