Texas Recruiting Roundup: Longhorns To Offer Former Baylor Pledge, To Flip Alabama Commit?

The season doesn't start for the Texas Longhorns for several months, giving the Longhorns plenty of time to focus on recruiting. Texas has turned up the heat in recruiting during the offseason, and it's already paying dividends. Here are the latest news and rumors surrounding Texas football recruiting:

Former Baylor commit expecting offer from Texas
Three-star safety Donovan Stiner (Bellaire, TX) backed out of his commitment to Baylor following the scandal surrounding head coach Art Briles, and he appears to be leaning towards committing to Texas - once he gets an offer.

“I’m really high on Texas, and I’m really interested in them,” Stiner said. “I like their coaching staff, and I like their great reputation of coaching defensive backs.

“I think I’m close to an offer. The camp went great. Coach (Clay) Jennings told me that he liked what he saw and liked that I listened. It was great working with him, and I feel that he’s a great coach.”

He says Houston, Missouri and Oklahoma State are his three favorites that have offered him, but Texas will jump into that mix once an offer comes.

The 6'2", 185-pounder is ranked as the No. 72 safety and No. 996 overall prospect in the country.

Texas to flip Alabama commit?
2018 four-star TE Malcolm Epps (Houston, TX) is an Alabama commit, but he's still keeping a close eye on the Longhorns after making an unofficial visit this spring.

“I loved the campus,” Epps’ father told 247sports. “I’m from Texas, and I went to school at St. Edward’s University, so I’m familiar with the campus and with the program.

“What’s going to happen is when we come down to our five official visits, we’ll make sure the University of Texas is in strong consideration. I think as a Texan, it would be a disservice to not visit a school of that magnitude.Whenever that day comes, he’ll (Malcolm) make the final decision, but we will strongly consider those schools as well.”

Epps said that he is very impressed with head coach Charlie Strong, who he described as "amazing."

Houston, Michigan and UCLA are the other schools that are still heavily pursuing Epps. He is ranked as the No. 4 tight end and No. 82 overall prospect in the 2018 class.
