Confirmed: Texas Will Play In The Texas Bowl

The Texas Longhorns have accepted an invitation to play in the AdvoCare Texas Bowl against an as-of-yet unnamed SEC opponent on December 29th at Houston's NRG Stadium, bowl officials announced on Sunday.

Per Mike Finger of My San Antonio, "UT’s most likely opponent is either LSU or Arkansas. The SEC is responsible for assigning its teams to bowls."

The Longhorns (6-6) won three of their last four contest to become eligible for postseason play, and will make their first appearance in the Texas Bowl. This will be the third straight in-state bowl game for the Texas Longhorns, as the program finished the last two season in San Antonio at the Alamo Bowl.

Both the LSU Tigers (8-4) and Arkansas Razorbacks (6-6) would present a very tough challenge for Charlie Strong's Longhorns, with each team possessing unique skill sets that would make for an intriguing matchups. Texas' last bowl game against an SEC opponent came at the end of the 2009 season, when the Longhorns fell to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the national championship game.
