Pa-Modou Kah retires, joins Whitecaps coaching staff

The 36-year-old transitions into an exclusive coaching role after a nearly 20-year playing career.

Defender Pa-Modou Kah announced his retirement on Tuesday, although he will remain with the Vancouver Whitecaps as a coach.

The 36-year-old Gambian-born former Norway international had been serving as a player-coach with Vancouver's USL team Whitecaps FC 2 since August, after playing for the first team for a season and a half. In all, Kah played on three continents and with several different clubs in a playing career that began in 1998.

"It’s been an amazing 20 years and although it saddens me to be hanging up the boots for good, I feel incredibly grateful to be given the chance to start coaching for Whitecaps FC and continue my journey here in Vancouver," Kah said in a statement posted on the club's official website.
