The 36-year-old midfielder retires as his country's leading scorer and as a four-time MLS Cup champion.
Dwayne De Rosario announced his retirement Sunday in an Instagram post and said he would be joining Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment as an ambassador.
De Rosario was the 2011 MLS MVP after a season in which he played for three different teams: Toronto FC, the New York Red Bulls and D.C. United. He scored 16 goals that season and also gave out 12 assists. In addition to the individual honor, De Rosario won four MLS Cups - two with the San Jose Earthquakes and two with the Houston Dynamo.
