Mariners Rumors: Seattle "not looking to trade" SS Brad Miller

Seattle Mariners shortstop Brad Miller has been the subject of a litany of trade rumors over the past couple of weeks, but one anonymous club official is indicating that the team has no plans to move him.

“Look, there’s all sorts of speculation (about Miller),” the official said, via Bob Dutton of the News Tribune, “and it’s easy to see why. The guy’s an athlete, and everybody — and I mean everybody — thinks he’s going to hit.

"That’s why lots of teams ask about him. But understand this: We’re not looking to trade him. I’m not saying it won’t happen, but it’s a lot less likely than some people seem to think.”

Miller was reportedly part of the trade package Seattle offered in hopes of landing outfielder Matt Kemp, but now it appears he's in line to be the team's starting shortstop. Or, if the team is unable to fully address right field before Opening Day, he's a candidate to move there as well.

“I think that’s a last resort,” another club official stated, “but it shows it shows how much we like his bat. His defense at short needs work, but we might have to live with that to get his bat (in the lineup).”
