Report: Sharks have 'permission to interview' Carlyle

The first name has emerged as a potential candidate for the Sharks’ vacant head coaching position.

According to multiple reports, including Hockey Night in Canada's Elliotte Friedman, the Sharks have permission to speak with former Ducks and Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle.

The 59-year-old, who led Anaheim to a Stanley Cup in 2006-07, was fired by Toronto in January. In parts of 10 seasons, he has a 364-260-80 record as a head coach.

While Carlyle’s name is now linked with San Jose, he’s likely just one of several candidates that general manager Doug Wilson will speak with about the Sharks’ head coaching job.
