NHL: Canadiens top Leafs to improve to 9-0

P.K. Subban and Max Pacioretty each had a goal and an assist as the host Montreal Canadiens beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-3 on Saturday to extend their season-opening winning streak to nine games.

Montreal is a victory away from tying the NHL record for consecutive wins to start a season. The mark was set by the Maple Leafs in 1993-94 and matched by Buffalo in 2006-07.

The Canadiens have set a record by winning their first nine games in regulation. They matched the NHL’s season-opening mark set by the 1975-76 Sabres with their previous win.
