Sharks star Joe Pavelski upstaged Stephen Curry, and everyone else, in the 29th annual American Century Championship, grabbing a first-round lead at Lake Tahoe on Friday.
Pavelski overcame some early uneasiness to shoot a 70 at the Edgewood Tahoe course, good for 25 points and a one-point lead over ex-49ers quarterback Trent Dilfer in the modified Stableford scoring system.
“You feel the nerves on the first hole,” Pavelski said. “You feel them on 9 when you’re trying to close out a round or make a birdie.
“Being from the Bay Area, the fans I see out here, (I) get a lot of love,” he added.
