MLB Trade Deadline: Giants looking at Gordon Beckham, two other second basemen

After the San Francisco Giants acquired former Atlanta Braves second baseman Dan Uggla earlier this month, many MLB analysts believed that the team was done shopping for middle infield help.

However, after a less-than-impressive debut for Uggla, Fox Sports 1's Jon Morosi is reporting that the Giants are still in the market for an upgrade at second base:

While Cabrera might not be very likely at this juncture (relatively high price for what could be a two-month rental), both Beckham and Bonifacio are said to be currently on the market at a relatively cost-effective rate.

The Chicago Cubs have been in talks with several teams on Bonifacio in the past couple of days, with multiple indications that they are relatively close to a deal. The Giants are one of the teams currently in the mix, with the utility man's positional flexibility and solid bat said to be a coveted asset.

Beckham is arbitration eligible in 2015, with a pay bump from his current $4.175 million salary a distinct possibilty. The Chicago White Sox have shown willingness to move him, but will likely require a trade package with a bit more heft than that required to land Bonifacio. With just a .248/.302/.395 line in 66 games, the Giants could be unwilling to part with such a haul in order to land the 27-year-old.

Stay tuned.
