49ers on hunt for offensive tackle help after Coleman’s ankle surgery

SANTA CLARA — Shon Coleman had surgery Sunday morning to repair a fractured fibula and dislocated right ankle, meaning the 49ers need a new offensive tackle to emerge as the primary backup to Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey this season.

Coleman got injured when guard Najee Toran inadverntly fell into the back of Coleman’s leg, on the fourth snap of Saturday night’s exhibition-opening win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Acquired in a trade last year from the Cleveland Browns, Coleman was not active for any game as Garry Gilliam instead served as the swing tackle.

Willie Beavers replaced Coleman on Saturday night and drew there holding penalties.
