We knew going into these “COVID Cup Playoffs” that things were going to be somewhat out of the ordinary. The lack of fans has made for an interesting dynamic to say the least, and the wide-open format seemed ripe for some upsets from the beginning.
In the play-in round, the Columbus Blue Jackets took out the Toronto Maple Leafs in five games. While this may not be the most high-profile of upsets - some may not consider it an upset at all - I think most of us were at least a little taken aback by a stingy defensive squad beating such a high-octane offensive unit.
