Nylander nets two as kid Leafs fall to Senators

LONDON, Ont. — Part of the allure of this four-team rookie tournament for the Maple Leafs was pitting their skilled snipers against some of the best prospect goalies in the NHL.

The smallish Leaf forwards had more shots Friday, but fell 5-4 to the Ottawa Senators when Tobias Lindberg scored quickly in the new 3-on-3 overtime format. For the Leafs, William Nylander struck twice and assisted on Travis Dermott’s power-play marker in the final two minutes. Nikita Soshnikov and Kasperi Kapanen (two points) had plenty of zip, three of the goals coming against 6-foot-5 Matt O’Connor, who split the game with starter Chris Driedger.
