Remembering Red Kelly, Former Maple Leafs & Red Wings Defenceman

The smooth skating Hall of Famer was born in Simcoe, Ontario in the summer of 1927. His trademark nickname “Red” was given to him because of his red hair at a young age.

The 1950’s legend was the blue-print for today’s modern, puck rushing defenceman. He was Bobby Orr before Bobby Orr was. An offensive threat from the blue-line that many had never seen. In the ’60s he became the shut down center that every time would kill for. A elite 200-foot player that would make Patrice Bergeron jealous. Kelly was a hockey player.
