Saints' narrow escape over Panthers leads to NFC South runaway

NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Saints can’t feel good about the way they kept trying to let the Carolina Panthers back in the game Sunday.

Ugly or not, they have to feel great about the fact that they have now essentially slammed the door shut on the NFC South race.

Thanks to Sunday’s 34-31 survival in the Superdome, the Saints (9-2) are now four games ahead of the Panthers (5-6) with five weeks left in the regular season.

They’ll have to turn around quickly before playing at Atlanta (3-9) on Thanksgiving night.
