Rangers' Moore hosting 4th-annual Smashfest charity

Rangers center Dominic Moore will host his fourth-annual Smashfest charity event in Toronto on Thursday night with support from the NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA), a gathering that has raised $270,000 in its first three years, including a high of $140,000 in 2014.

Moore hosts Smashfest to support the Katie Moore Foundation for rare cancers and the Steve Moore Foundation for the prevention and treatment of concussions, in honor of his late wife and his retired brother, respectively.

Katie Moore passed away in January 2013 at the age of 32 from a rare form of liver cancer, and Moore’s brother, Steve, was forced to retire from hockey in 2004 due to debilitating concussion symptoms after a vicious, blind-side attack from Todd Bertuzzi.
