New York Giants News/Rumors: Josh Rosen Next Giants QB, Pat Shurmur Will Be Successful, And More

The New York Giants had a disappointing 3-13 season and will look to address many needs this off-season, starting in the 2018 NFL Draft. New York's head coaching search has taken big leaps forward as they appear to have identified a top candidate, but there is news leaking that people aren't happy how the Giants handled their general manager search. Here is the latest Giants news and rumors you won't want to miss.

Rosen To Giants In Mel Kiper's 1st Mock Draft
The Giants will have the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and ESPN's NFL Draft expert, Mel Kiper Jr. just released his first mock draft. Kiper has the Giants selecting UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen.

With quarterback Eli Manning turning 37 it looks like Kiper believes it's time to draft the next franchise quarterback.

Rosen has continued to show the arm strength, accuracy, and pocket awareness to solidify him as a top pick. He was surrounded by lesser talent and bad coaching throughout his UCLA career, but for a quarterback-needy team like the Giants, Rosen's positive traits should outweigh any concerns.

Pat Shurmur Will Succeed in New York
The Giants are targeting Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur to be their next head coach, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Vikings are still in the playoffs, but as soon as their season is over, all signs are pointing to the Giants hiring Shurmur.

Head coach of the Vikings Mike Zimmer thinks "he's earned the right" to be a head coach in the NFL. “If he gets an opportunity,” Vikings  Zimmer said, “I think he’ll be successful.”

The Vikings have been one of the surprise teams this season, advancing to the NFC Championship game. The offense lost quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater last season due to a horrific leg injury and Sam Bradford this season.  The coaching of Shurmur has reignited quarterback Case Keenum's career and the Giants may be trying to do the same with quarterback Eli Manning.

Dave Gettleman Ruffled Some Feathers
The Giants hired Dave Gettleman as their general manager and the way New York handled the search didn't go over well with some people around the league, writes Draft Analysts' Tony Pauline.

"Multiple sources tell me there were a lot of feathers ruffled when the New York Giants hired Dave Gettleman as their general manager.

Sources feel Gettleman was the favorite of former Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi and was hired based on his previous tenure and familiarity with the organization rather than the franchise doing an exhaustive search for the best person for the job.

I’m told one of the reasons Gettleman was released by Carolina was that he wasn’t a people person and really did not try to ingratiate with enough members of the organization."

Since the Giants never truly opened up their search for a new GM, this bothered the fan base and people around the NFL. The Giants will have to hope they made the right decision and there is only one way to find out.
