Referee kills play early, costs Saints a touchdown vs. Rams

The New Orleans Saints have been the victims of spectacular officiating mistakes in three consecutive games, with a premature whistle wiping out a fumble returned 84 yards for a touchdown by defensive end Cameron Jordan.

Saints defensive end Trey Hendrickson forced a fumble of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff, which Jordan grabbed and took the distance across the field for a score. But one of the officials mistook the play for an incomplete pass and signaled that the play was dead early in the return, taking points off the scoreboard for New Orleans. The Saints were instead set up deep in their own territory and ended up turning over on downs.
