NBA Rumors: Joel Embiid Physical Raises Red Flags, Cavs Scared Off?

Kansas star Joel Embiid has been touted as a potential #1 overall pick, but a rumored physical in Cleveland could send him crashing down the board.

The Cavs were reportedly targeting Embiid prior to the physical, so if this proves to be true, they may need to re-work their draft plans in a hurry. Because this information has yet to be verified by secondary sources, it should be treated as an unconfirmed rumor and not a statement of fact.

UPDATE 3:15 pm  PT: Fox Sports Ohio's Sam Amico refutes the report that Embiid's physical went poorly:

...and now Chris Sheridan reports the same:

Sheridan and Amico have both whiffed on rumors before, with Amico coming under fire on a regular basis - however, both are more reliable than the original source of this report. For now, it's safe to say that Embiid is still a legitimate contender to go #1,

This past season, Embiid missed the Big 12 tournament and the first three rounds of the NCAA tournament due to a stress fracture in his lower back. A native of Cameroon, Embiid didn't play organized basketball until high school, but quickly caught the eye of college coaches and scouts thanks to his size and natural ability. In his freshman year at Kansas, the 7'0, 250 pound center averaged 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks.
