MLB Trade Rumors Roundup: Yankees And Red Sox Targeting Same Players And Dodgers Want Starting Pitching

The MLB trade deadline is roughly a month away and there are already several notable trade rumors floating around. That includes who could be dealt and which teams are ready to buy. Here are all the latest MLB trade rumors from the hot stove you need to know.

Dodgers Want Starting Pitching
The Dodgers lead the NL West, but aren't satisfied with their current starting rotation. As a result, they're looking for more pitching help and they're targeting big names.

"The Dodgers remain more focused on adding a starting pitcher than position player, sources say, with Sonny Gray, Gerrit Cole, Jose Quintana and Justin Verlander among the options they're considering," Jon Morosi of MLB.com reports. "The Dodgers want to avoid having ace Clayton Kershaw pitch on short rest in the first round, as he has in each of the last four years."

Verlander might not actually be on the trade market. Quintana started the year rough, but both he and Gray are starting to round into form. However, the Dodgers aren't the only team interested in adding the Oakland A's ace.

Yankees And Red Sox interested in Sonny Gray
The top two teams in the AL East (the Red Sox hold a one game lead) both want Sonny Gray. Jeff Passan of Yahoo reports both the Yankees and Red Sox are interested in adding Gray, as is pretty much every team in need of starting pitching help (Astros, Cubs, etc). While the Red Sox and Yankees also want bullpen help, the allure of adding Gray is there. The Yankees need starting pitching more than the Red Sox, as New York's recent slide has shown. Gray has posted a 3-3 record, 4.45 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP this year.

Yankees And Red Sox Talking Trade With Marlins
Sonny Gray isn't the only player both the Yankees and Red Sox are interested in. Bob Nightengale of the USA Today reports both clubs have had talks with the Miami Marlins.

"The Yankees and Red Sox have each recently informed the Marlins that they have interest in third baseman Martin Prado, according to high-ranking officials with direct knowledge of the preliminary talks," Nightengale writes. "...The Yankees also would like to acquire Marlins power-hitting first baseman Justin Bour."

The Yankees are looking for an upgrade over Chase Headley, with Boston looking to replace Pablo Sandoval. Prado is hitting .286 with 10 RBIs, numbers below his usual averages. He's an upgrade for both clubs, but is also owned $28.5 million through 2019.

One final note on the Yankees, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Padres called the Yankees about star prospect Gleyber Torres. Not surprisingly, the Yankees weren't interested in trading Torres.
