MLB News And Rumors: Kyle Schwarber Injury, Tim Lincecum Return And More

Week 1 of the 2016 MLB season is nearing its end as we head into the weekend. As teams get back in the swing of things, there have been no shortage of storylines, ranging from player injuries to free-agent rumors to a new founder for America's Pastime.

Read on for the best and latest MLB news and rumors.

UPDATE (April 8 at 6:20 p.m. ET):
Kyle Schwarber is out for the season with a torn ACL and LCL.

Rumors swirling on Schwarber
Chicago Cubs star Kyle Schwarber suffered what appeared to be a nasty ankle injury in an outfield collision on Thursday. According to Buster Olney, the team is actually more concerned with his knee. Schwarber, who burst onto the scene as a power-hitting rookie in 2015, will undergo an MRI on Friday.

Baseball gets new founding father
As it turns out, Alexander Cartwright is not the creator of baseball. That distinction goes to Daniel Lucious "Doc" Adams, whose 1857 documents entitled "Laws of Base Ball" were reviewed and authorized by MLB's official historian John Thorn. The papers are currently up for sale in an auction, with the highest bid currently at $146,410.

Giants still interested in Lincecum?
News on the Tim Lincecum front has been slow over the past month, but a report from Jon Heyman on Friday revealed that the San Francisco Giants remain interested in former two-time NL Cy Young winner. San Francisco may not be his top suitor, however, as they still prefer the right-hander in a bullpen role.

Dodgers and Padres make history
The Los Angeles Dodgers (3-1) and San Diego Padres (0-3) have had polar opposite starts to the season. L.A.'s pitchers kicked things off with a 31-inning shutout streak -- one shy of the MLB record -- before the Giants plated a run in the fifth inning of their series opener on Thursday. The Padres were on the losing end of that streak, and with three-straight shutouts to begin the year, have experienced the worst start in league history.

Castro, Story highlight hot starts
Several players have got off to scorching starts, but the two most surprising ones belong to New York Yankees second baseman Starlin Castro and Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story. Castro, who failed to live up to expectations with the Cubs, has racked up eight RBI through three games. Story, meanwhile, set a rookie record with home runs in each of his first three games as a pro.
