BREAKING: Vikings Release WR Jerome Simpson In Light Of Latest Pot Charges

In this Vikings news and rumors bulletin, the Minnesota Vikings have just released currently-suspended wide receiver Jerome Simpson in light of his scheduled arraignment on November 3rd for misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession.

Here's the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport with the scoop:

Simpson is currently serving a three-game suspension (starting Week 1) after being arrested for drunken driving last November in Minneapolis. His probation supervisor, Brian Kopperud, indicated that he wasn't made aware of Simpson's recent run-in with the law until the St. Paul Pioneer Press broke the story - an omission on Simpson's part that could lead to him earning a probation violation in the near future.

In addition, coach Mike Zimmer didn't hear about it himself until a team PR person told him on Thursday. Coupled with the team's decision to bar star running back Adrian Peterson from all team activities until his own brush with the legal system runs its course, and its a precarious position that the first-year head coach finds himself in right now.

"We're going to look for high-quality guys," Zimmer said, via Ben Goessling of ESPN.com. "We're going to keep guys who care about football, guys who are passionate about playing the game. We're going to continue to get those guys and keep working. There's really nothing I can do about what everybody else says."

"All I can do is what I think is best at the time."
