Former Michigan DT Maurice Hurst, A Projected First-Round Pick, Diagnosed With Heart Condition

Former Michigan defensive tackle Maurice Hurst, a projected first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, has been diagnosed with a heart condition following tests at the NFL Combine, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Michigan DT Maurice Hurst, projected as a potential first-round pick, was diagnosed today with a heart condition, league sources told ESPN. Hurst will not go through combine drills and will undergo further testing this week.

The undersized 280-pound defensive tackle is one of the top players in this year's NFL Draft, though this heart condition certainly jeopardizes his playing future. One of the most disruptive players in college football last year, Hurst was expected to go in the first round after being named first-team All-American.

The Los Angeles Chargers were projected to take Hurst with the No. 17 overall pick in Chat Sports' latest mock draft.

Earlier this season, Pro Football Focus rated Hurst as the best college football player in the country.

Hurst racked up 59 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and five sacks as a senior for the Wolverines.
