Padres, Royals Agree To Six Player Trade Involving Trevor Cahill And Brandon Maurer

The Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres have agreed to a six player trade involving multiple pitchers.

So, the Royals are getting Brandon Maurer, Ryan Buchter and Trevor Cahill, while the Padres are getting Matt Straham, Travis Wood and Esteury Ruiz. Kansas City has now confirmed the trade

Cahill, a starter, is 4-3 this year with a 3.69 ERA and a 1.344 WHIP. Maurer has been the Padres' closer this year. He has 20 saves, with a 5.72 ERA and a 1.195 WHIP. Buchter, a lefty, is 3-3 with a 3.05 ERA and a 1.2 WHIP as a bullpen arm.

Wood, who can serve as a starter and reliever, has struggled this year. He has a 1-3 record (mostly coming out of the bullpen) with a 6.91 ERA and a 1.82 WHIP. Strahm is out for the year as he recovers from a knee injury. Before going down this year, Strahm had posted a 2-5 record with a 5.45 ERA and a 1.5 WHIP.

Ruiz is an 18-year old infielder that the Padres are high on. He's the likely focal point of the deal for San Diego. In rookie ball, Ruiz has hit a blistering .419, with three homers, 23 RBIs and nine stolen bases in 21 games.
