Fantasy Football RB Rankings: Week 3

The running back group is thin this year, meaning you might be in a tough spot at times this season. At least you have my rankings to help you out.

Byes: None

Updated: Sept. 18

Other Rankings: QB, RB, WR, TE, DEF

Rank & Player Opponent Notes
1. LeSean McCoy, PHI WSH With Peterson and Charles out, McCoy is even more valuable.
2. DeMarco Murray, DAL @STL See what happens when Murray gets the ball Dallas? He also has a great history against the Rams.
3. Arian Foster, HOU @NYG The Giants can't stop the run. Foster could be in for another big week. Hopefully he can stay healthy all season.
4. Gio Bernard, CIN TEN Bernard is the Bengals' go-to back this year. He gets a bump thanks to injuries and suspensions at the RB spot across the league.
5. Marshawn Lynch, SEA DEN Lynch still has some Beast Mode in him. I think he gets less carries against Denver this week though.
6. Alfred Morris, WAS @PHI So far so good for Morris in the Redskins' new offense.
7. Le'Veon Bell, PIT @CAR Bell will likely be a fringe Top 10 RB for much of the year.
8. Eddie Lacy, GB @DET Don't panic and move Lacy. Just be patient. He'll bounce back.
9. Matt Forte, CHI @NYJ The Jets actually do a really good job of limiting opposing RBs.
10. Montee Ball, DEN @SEA Ball has a tough matchup against the Seahawks. But with so many RBs hurt, you pretty much have to play Ball.
11. Rashad Jennings, NYG HOU The Giants offense may be terrible, but Jennings still has some fantasy value. He has a solid matchup this week.
12. C.J. Spiller, BUF SD Play him while he's healthy.
13. Knile Davis, KC @MIA Davis is really good. Sign him and start him if you can.
14. Bobby Rainey, TB @ATL UPDATE: With Martin out, Rainey gets a big bump.
15. Zac Stacy, STL @TB Stacy looked better in Week 2, but I'm still worried about his future as a starter. If you own him you should be worried too.
16. Stevan Ridley, NE @OAK Ridley will be the starter until he fumbles. That makes him risky, but he's going up against the Raiders this week.
17. Frank Gore, SF @ARI Gore has a tough matchup this week.
18. Andre Ellington, ARI SF Ellington is going to have a big year, but he's got a tough matchup this week.
19. Reggie Bush, DET GB I think Bush gets more playing time this week than Bell. But you'd still be better offer owning Bell long term.
20. Joique Bell, DET GB Bell is better than Bush: He's getting more playing time. However, I think Bush will play more against the Packers because both teams will throw it a ton.
21. Lamar Miller, MIA KC With Moreno hurt, Miller's value skyrockets. Still, be cautious in playing him.
22. Darren Sproles, PHI WAS Yeah... looks like I was wrong about Sproles.
23. Pierre Thomas, NO MIN Thomas is better a PPR option, but might see some more touches with Ingram hurt.
24. Chris Johnson, NYJ CHI You know the risks of playing Johnson. He'll do a lot or barely anything.
25. Matt Asiata, MIN @NO Asiata will start in lieu of Peterson for now. He's not much more than a backup though.
26. Bernard Pierce, BAL @CLE Is Pierce or Forsett the starter now? I can't figure it out so just keep them both on the bench for now.
27. Terrence West, CLE BAL West is the starter with Ben Tate out. He's good, but has a bad matchup against the Ravens.
28. Donald Brown, SD @BUF Brown is the beneficiary of Ryan Matthews being made of glass.
29. Fred Jackson, BUF SD He'll get some touches, but his maximum value won't be reached unless Spiller goes down.
30. Toby Gerhart, JAC IND Gerhart isn't very good. Don't believe me?
31. Khiry Robinson, NO MIN With Ingram out, don't be surprised if Robinson gets more carries. And looks good doing so.
32. Trent Richardson, IND @JAC Richardson has looked like a complete bust.
33. Ahmad Bradshaw, IND @JAC At some point the Colts staff has to give Bradshaw most of the workload. Right?
34. Steven Jackson, ATL TB Jackson is on his last legs. He'll be phased out of the offense in the near future.
35. Shonn Greene, TEN @CIN He's the Titans' starter, for now. He's got a terrible matchup against the Bengals defense.
36. Danny Woodhead, SD @BUF Another tailback who is better in a PPR league. No Matthews might help his value.
37. Darren McFadden, OAK @NE The possibility of no MJD increases his value.
38. Maurice Jones-Drew, OAK @NE MJD might not play this week. Even if he does, he's got a bad matchup.
39. Justin Forsett, BAL PIT See Pierce, Bernard.
40. Chris Ivory, NYJ CHI He splits time with Chris Johnson, but might vulture a few touchdowns.
41. DeAngelo Williams, CAR PIT Williams might not play on Sunday night. It's best to keep him on the bench.
42. Jonathan Stewart, CAR PIT If Williams can't go, Stewart will get his carries.
43. Jeremy Hill, CIN TEN He's a handcuff for Bernard. He might vulture a few touchdowns at some point.
44. Bishop Sankey, TEN @CIN Don't play him. Yet. He'll be the starter at some point this year.
45. Doug Martin, TB STL UPDATE: Doug Martin is out, so keep him on your bench.
