Entering Thursday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena, Vanek had three goals and six assists in 20 games. Vanek, 34, suffered a hip injury Oct. 30 at Columbus, causing him to miss eight games. After spending time on the fourth line, Vanek is back playing on a line that’s had great chemistry in the past, with Frans Nielsen and Andreas Athanasiou, and maybe that can lead to more points.

“He’s definitely unbelievable,” Athanasiou said. “He has a lot of skill with the puck. It’s something me and Frans look for, is getting the puck on his stick and then finding that open ice and knowing the puck will be delivered there.
