The Detroit Red Wings retired Red Kelly’s No. 4 on Friday night before their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Kelly is the eighth player to have his number raised to the rafters by the Red Wings.

Nearly 59 years passed between Kelly’s final game for the Wings (Feb. 4, 1960) and the Wings’ number retirement. Though a week after his retirement, he came out of retirement and was traded to Toronto (where he played until 1967).
