Avalanche skates past Blues with big second period

Cale Makar and Andre Burakovsky scored within a 22-second span of the second period Saturday to lift the Avalanche to a 5-3 victory over the rival St. Louis Blues at the Pepsi Center.

Nathan MacKinnon, Tyson Jost and Gabe Landeskog (empty net) also scored in a tight game that featured just 24 shots by the Blues and 19 for the Avs.

The Avs led 1-0, scoring on their first shot for the second consecutive game, before falling behind 2-1 after the Blues scored late in the first period and early in the second.

St. Louis’ momentum was short-lived.
