The Cleveland Indians have matched MLB history. With a 2-0 win over the Detroit Tigers Tuesday night, the Indians have matched the 2002 Oakland Athletics for longest winning streak in the AL.
The Indians are just one win away from taking the AL record outright from the "Moneyball" A's and matching the Chicago Cubs (and Chicago White Stockings) for most consecutive wins in baseball history.
As has been the case for basically all of this streak, the Indians' pitching was on-point. Corey Kluber pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just five hits. He struck out eight batters and was helped out by some strong defensive plays.
Francisco Lindor struck early for Indians, hitting a home run to lead off the game. Carlos Santana then scored in the 6th on a wild pitch. That was all the Indians would need.
The Indians go for more history tomorrow night, again against the Tigers. After that, it's a four-game series at home against the Royals.
