TORONTO - The big money the Maple Leafs have laid out for an expanded front office does not apply to their restricted free agent goaltender.
Reports of submissions for Friday’s club-elected salary arbitration hearing indicate the Leafs are offering Jonathan Bernier the lowest one-year figure possible. Bernier, who made $3.4 million US last season in what can be described as a sub-par season, has been informed the team is offering $2.89 million for the 2015-16, which is the minimum 85% of his ‘14-15 salary allowed under the CBA.
Bernier’s agent, Pat Brisson, has countered with a request of $5.
