The Ducks officially transitioned into the John Gibson era Monday when they traded goalie Frederik Andersen to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a first-round pick in this weekend’s draft and a second-round pick in 2017.
The Ducks have two first-round picks, the 24th and 30th, for the draft that starts Friday.
The writing was on the wall for the financially-handcuffed Ducks to move Andersen, who is set to become a restricted free agent and shared time with presumed goalie-of-the-future Gibson.

Ducks General Manager Bob Murray said last week that “some people that have the arbitration rights are going to force themselves out of the picture,” in reference to Andersen and defenseman Sami Vatanen, who was re-signed last week.
