Selection Sunday came and went without the Xavier Musketeers hearing their name called for the NCAA Tournament.
After losing its final three games and six of its last eight, Xavier finished the season 13-8.
A 70-69 overtime loss in which the Musketeers let a 19-point first-half lead slip away to Butler on Wednesday in the first round of the Big East Conference Tournament will leave Xavier wondering for a while what might have been had it finished that game the right way.
The Musketeers have missed two NCAA Tournaments in a row (2019, 2021) and although there was no tournament in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Xavier was again on the bubble and very much in danger of missing the dance had there been one.
