WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – It became clear early on Saturday night that Xavier didn't bring its best basketball to Wake Forest.
The fire from a week ago in the Crosstown Shootout wasn't there early on and despite a desperate comeback late in the game, the Musketeers failed their first true road test of the season, 80-78.
Xavier, now 9-2 this season, trailed 66-53 with 7:30 left in the game and that's around the time the Musketeers started to fight their way back into the game.
At the 4:10 mark, junior Naji Marshall hit a 3-pointer to cut Wake Forest's lead to 69-66, then Marshall proceeded to foul out of the game after he made it a one-possession game.
