Xavier men's basketball senior guard Paul Scruggs had one of his best-ever days in a Musketeers uniform against Marquette University and it's debatable if his was the best performance of the game.
That's not a statement intended to stir controversy. Rather, it's a testament to Xavier's depth, which has yet to be overcome this season.
Scruggs went for a game-high 29 points (11 of 19 shooting) – one point shy of his XU career best – and six assists as Xavier (8-0, 1-0 Big East) downed Marquette, 91-88, on Sunday at Cintas Center.
Of course, the win was ultimately sealed by junior guard and Hebron, Kentucky native Adam Kunkel, who hit a buzzer-beater 3-pointer to send the Golden Eagles (5-4, 1-2 Big East) packing in a game XU labored to close out down the stretch.
