Xavier basketball was on a mission to reverse a sweep at the hands of Marquette University last season, and the Golden Eagles didn’t offer much resistance this year.
The No. 8-ranked Musketeers made good on closing out the 2017-18 sweep of Marquette in Big East play via an 89-70 victory at Cintas Center with a crowd of 10,493 in attendance Wednesday.
The win pushed Xavier to 19-2 overall, 7-2 in the Big East and with a chance next week to close out January with 20 wins following a six-day break from competition.
The victory also allowed Xavier a measure of revenge after it was drubbed in two meetings last season against Marquette.
