MILWAUKEE – No. 6 Xavier held off Marquette to open its BIG EAST Conference schedule with a 91-87 win on Wednesday night. Neither team led by more than seven points in a game that featured 11 ties and 10 lead changes before the Musketeers edged away late, sealing the win at the free throw line in the final minute.
Five Musketeers hit double figures, led by Trevon Bluiett's 23, as Xavier won its eighth straight game, moving to 13-1 overall and 3-0 in true road games. Marquette moved to 9-4 on the season.
- Xavier opened the game with a 6-0 run, and used eight points early from Tyrique Jones to hold an advantage or tie for the first eight minutes.
