Due to the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic, depth within a basketball program might be more important than it ever has been before.
Xavier University's men's basketball team was already in a comfortable situation with a roster that runs 10 or 11 players deep depending on the scenario, and Wednesday that depth got another infusion in the form of Ben Stanley, a 6-foot-6, 230-pound transfer from Hampton University.
Stanley's waiver for immediate eligibility was denied in November, as was his subsequent appeal, but a Wednesday vote by the NCAA Division I Council passed a blanket waiver for all transfers, giving them immediate eligibility this season, which was first reported by Stadium's Jeff Goodman.
