Georgetown University Hoyas assistant coach Louis Orr, a Cincinnati native and former Withrow High School basketball standout and Xavier Musketeers assistant coach, died Thursday after a battle with pancreatic cancer, his family confirmed. He was 64.
Orr, who starred at Syracuse and played eight seasons in the NBA for the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks, was hired as an assistant on head coach Patrick Ewing's Hoya coaching staff in 2017. He started his coaching career as a Xavier assistant in 1991 under Pete Gillen and continued on the Musketeers' staff until 1994.
"We developed a friendship and a brotherhood," Ewing said in a statement.
