Former Xavier great Aaron Williams on Skip Prosser and his unlikely road to the NBA

Some roads to the National Basketball Association are glamorous and easily predictable. Others are covered in speed bumps and patched up potholes – a road fit only for the persistent.

Aaron Williams only played one season of varsity basketball in high school and he didn't know anything about Xavier University.

Back in the late 80s, without AAU summer basketball and the advent of the internet and social media, it was a lot harder for high school prospects to get noticed by college coaches.

But as it happened, Skip Prosser, a Xavier assistant at the time under Pete Gillen, wound up in the same gym as Williams, and while he didn’t know it at the time, it was a meeting that would effectively change the rest of Williams' life.
