Doc: A bond with Xavier to the very end

SAN JOSE, Calif. - It has never been proven there’s a special place in the afterlife for those who love their basketball teams. Of course it’s never been disproven, either.

Bonnie Fellinger wanted to be around until the tournament ride ended, and darned if she didn’t almost make it. Xavier’s ride, of course. Who else?

She met her husband Skip in November 1963, on a bus to a Xavier football game at Bowling Green. The day they were married (in Bellarmine Chapel on campus), they went to another Xavier football game. The Fellingers owned a huge Xavier pennant, dark blue with white lettering, circa 1935, that once flew over Corcoran Stadium.
