University of Dayton forward Obi Toppin was named the Associated Press men's college basketball player of the year on Tuesday.
Toppin, a redshirt sophomore, is the area's first national college basketball player of the year since Xavier's David West in 2003.
West was named the AP National Player of the Year and won the Oscar Robertson Award (an annual award given to the nation's top player by the United States Basketball Writers Association).
